I know approximately 100 percent of you already know this, so forgive me for mentioning that you can protect your shares from being loaned out to short sellers by asking your broker NOT to do it.

With Fidelity, at least, if your shares are not in a margin account, they cannot be loaned out. But even if they are in a margin account, you can stipulate that they are not for loan.
