I didn't pay too much attention to Jonathan Livingston Seagull in the 70's but I did read, "Jonathan Seagull Chicken".
To make a short story even shorter, Jonathan, a bored and restless young flying rooster seeking meaning to his life, moves to the Middle East and there he dies while fighting Syrian Migs over Israel. He goes to heaven where he is greeted by Jewish Patriarchs who honor and praise him and then, because it is the Sabbath, make soup of him.
