Sean,
I was perusing through the results, and, at first glance, what surprised me was the difference in standard deviations between Leronlimab and placebo.
Sure enough, I run a hypothesis test (hypothesized mean difference =0) assuming normal based hypothesis test for the difference between two population means of the results (with confidence level of 95% and obtained):
Test statistic= -2.41351
p‐value= 0.0158
My inputs (in case somebody wants to verify/confirm the results) were:
First sample mean (LL): -16.3
Second sample mean: -8.1
First sample size (LL): 28
Second sample size: 28
First population standard deviation (LL): 13.14
Second population standard deviation: 12.27
confidence level: 0.95
Needless to say, this constitutes statistical significance !!!. Of course, this is a small population (sample) but, with these results, a larger trial was definitely expected and called for.
Now, assuming a T‐based hypothesis test for the difference between two population means with the same data (significance level 0.05) we have:
Test statistic: -1.9971
Degrees of freedom: 53.498
p‐value: 0.05091
This is a two-tailed test
Why this was not pursued ???
