Greene Brags About "Securing Funding" For Project She Just Voted Against
A familiar pattern for the House GOP

Republican Representatives all over the country continue to try and take credit for infrastructure projects they voted against. They like to try and claim that they are "fiscal conservatives" battling the deficit by voting against appropriations bills, continuing resolutions, and the budget, but they also want their constituents to give them credit for federal projects in their district.
Yesterday, Marge Greene sent out an email and a press release bragging that she "secured federal funding" of $3.8 million to extend the Floyd County airport runway in her district.
The Rome News Tribune, a key local newspaper in her district, printed Greene's statement that she "meticulously sought out projects that would improve the quality of life, increase economic and social development, assist localities with vital funding needs, and harness community support."
She did nothing of the sort. What the newspaper failed to mention was that Greene voted against the bill that funded this project less than two weeks ago:
When Republicans get caught on these shameless panders and lies, their response is to claim that they were the ones who lobbied for a particular earmark in an appropriations bill, but they didn't like the earmarks in the bill secured by other Members of Congress for their districts so they voted against it. Therefore, they claim that they should get credit even though they voted against the overall bill.
But that isn't how Congress works. Individual earmarks for specific appropriations are never voted on one at a time because there are thousands of them. They are either voted on as part of a single budget package, or part of a larger appropriations bill that groups together thousands in a specific category - like foreign aid, infrastructure, defense, etc..
The media and the Biden Administration and campaign need to continue to call out these Republicans who continue to do this all over the country. We certainly will.
