FWIW, my opinion is that all hope, [and intense social and governmental pressure, BTW] was placed in vaccines (*see BP influence), so there was no need for treatments, right? Nobody would get covid if we were all vaccinated, right? Didn't quite work out like they planned, when lo and behold, even vaccinated people got it. {Insert sarcastic gasp here} So they figured they'd try to save face and throw out another ineffective option in Remdesivir (*see BP influence). That didn't work either, so now we are at a point where the CDC has backtracked all the way to, "oh well, just treat it like the flu."

*Meanwhile back at the ranch, anyone notice how many drug commercials are "brought to you by Pfizer" lately. Didn't hear that too often until the last two years.
