Just had the same thing happen with someone who swims at my pool. He was hurting so much, couldn't swim even though he'd been a college competitive swimmer; his doctor had put him on statins "prophylactically"...I suggested he look into it and a couple of weeks later he came back and said he'd weaned off them and was already starting to feel better...he's gotten better and better ever since but he's one of the lucky ones--some never recover from the damage. He didn't even 'need' them; his doc just put him on them because he was overweight, and the damage kept him from doing any exercise to help lose the weight!
