Coal use by U.S. power plants in 2023 is likely to be just half of what it was a decade ago. The report, issued Monday, found that 173 coal plants are set to close by 2030 — 54 percent of the current fleet — and another 54 by 2040.

People got to get their electric power from somewhere when that 20% from Coal disappears it won't be fossil fuels (currently 60%) picking up the slack.
