The study by Steven A. Camarota and Karen Zeigler found that immigrants and U.S.-born individuals heavily rely on anti-poverty programs. Immigrant households, in particular, are significantly more likely to receive benefits.

In 2022, 54 percent of immigrant households, including naturalized U.S. citizens, used at least one welfare program, as per the study’s findings. Excluding households led by naturalized citizens, even more migrant households utilize welfare benefits.

According to the study, a substantial 59 percent of households led by either a green card holder or an illegal alien receive welfare.
