Nelson: Sorry to hear about your friend. I lost a wonderful girlfriend to GBM. She was diagnosed in July of 2016 and passed in March of 2020, so she lived 44 months which is about twice the usual 18 to 20 months after the standard 6 weeks of chemo and radiation. That put her pretty far out on the survival bell curve and she had a decent quality of life until the last 6 months.
She tried 2 experimental treatments after her initial standard treatment: First Optune and later MDNA-55 from Medicenna, a Canadian biotech company, in a Phase II clinical trial at UCSF. I can't know for sure, but I ascribe her much longer than average survival to these two treatments. I believe Optune is still being used, just google it. The MDNA-55 trial is over and I don't know if any new ones have been started or if the treatment is available through compassionate use requests. Contact the company if interested.
I would be happy to share my experience with these two treatments with you or anyone else interested. Just send me a private message so we can set up a phone call. In any case good luck to your friend. I hope LL becomes available as an experimental treatment in time for her to try it. Perhaps these other two that I mentioned could act as a bridge to help her last until that time. Sincerely, Ganesha
