It was surely a cost/benefit analysis. A very large trial starting from scratch would be a ruinous cost. Couple that with competing with other new drugs out there and it wouldn't be worthwhile.

After the company announced they were no longer pursuing HIV why did the FDA throw them a lifeline? There are still a lot of HIV patient advocates out there and they would know the story of leronlimab. I'm sure they've been bedeviled by them (including Dr. Lalezari) for years and the last thing they need is for another advocacy group to go highly public. With Dr. Sacha's research expanding and going on to show the benefit of leronlimab and a possible one-shot effective cure can you imagine the backlash the FDA would get for shutting down Cytodyn pursuing HIV.

If even a fairly small percent of the population knew what I know and how many lives could be saved with leronlimab there would be rioting outside the FDA building right now.
