Who is Matt Gaetz?
Revealed: Matt Gaetz dumped on GOP's Biden impeachment inquiry during private call with donors
WASHINGTON, DC - SEPTEMBER 30:
NBC News reports that Gaetz, during a private call with major GOP donors, believed that the impeachment inquiry his party launched last month was less about actually removing Biden from office and more about generating months worth of damaging headlines for the president ahead of the 2024 election.
"I don’t believe that we are endeavoring upon a legitimate impeachment of Joe Biden," he said. "They’re trying to engage in a, like, ‘forever war’ of impeachment. And like many of our forever wars, it will drag on forever and end in a bloody draw."
Later in the call, Gaetz elaborated a little more on what he perceived as the GOP's current strategic thinking behind the inquiry.
"I just don’t get the sense that it’s for the sake of impeachment," he said. "I think it’s for the sake of having another bad thing to say about Joe Biden.”
Gaetz has also made critical public remarks about Republicans' efforts to investigate Biden for purported corruption, and earlier this week he said that Rep. Jim Jordan's (R-OH) work on assorted Biden probes looks like "failure theater."
