It might have to do with degree of perceived threat or risk. Allergies run the gamut, mild, moderate, severe. Years ago the normal cut-off for hypertension was 140/90. Since, it has been moved down; agree or disagree but there is some logic in getting the numbers down to the extent possible as the left ventricle and related aortic and mitral valves never get more relief than that diastolic number. Asking why some doesn’t take an anti-hypertensive if their BP is “high” can be a matter of perceived risk, weighing side effects etc.

If I was diagnosed with mild allergy, had never been to the ED for an acute life threatening episode my response might also fall into that “meh” category.
