I had the same reaction that Evil and Riz and HHI did, but maybe for a different reason. This sentence would be a peculiar construction:
Usually one would write Pestell is the most distinguished person I know of.
Unless of course the person writing it is the same person he's talking about. Because a person doesn't "know of" himself. He is himself. At least in most cases.
