I take care to qualify my reporting by stating what is identified on LinkedIn. Each person is free to interpret that any way they wish. I personally have no third-party sources of verification.
It is a data point. Someone appears to be going to the trouble of updating the employee count. Typically "employee" is defined as remuneration in return for services rendered.
