IFNs might help at the absolute beginning of a Covid infection since they trigger the immune system to fight. But they also induce upregulation of CCR5 and all those cytokines that produce a cytokine storm. If someone stays in the mild stage then their immune system is doing fine on it's own. Force a heavy increase in IFNs and they may advance to severe or critical.
