"Assault weapons" were never really banned, they just took on a new look. Take the AR-15, for example. This gun was slightly modified and continued to be sold to the public. Basically, the flash suppressor was removed from the newer guns which gave them a "tamer" look. And of course, they were sold with clips that could hold no more than 10 rounds. Also, if I remember correctly, you couldn't call the AR-15 an AR-15 any longer. So, I guess the drop in crime during the "banned years" happened because no self-respecting criminal or mass murderer would be seen with the new sissy looking 223 Sure Kill. That may be an ok weapon for the growing population of prissy capons we now have in the country, but real he-man thugs need their flash suppressors.
