Biden docs lead to renewed questions of possible Chinese funding for Penn Biden Center
Shortly after leaving his post as vice president, Biden established the Penn Biden Center connected to and funded by the University of Pennsylvania. The school also made Biden an honorary professor.
Not long after announcing the project, $30 million of donations flooded in from China to the university and millions came in from anonymous sources.
Skepticism over these foreign donations is not new. In 2020 the National Legal and Policy Center filed a complaint against UPenn for failing to disclose the source of anonymous Chinese donations.
"The University of Pennsylvania is very opaque. They won’t tell us how much of that Chinese money was going to the Biden Center," said Paul Kamenar the legal counsel for NLPC. "China’s not giving millions of dollars to the University of Pennsylvania to fund their music department."
