Thanks for finding this brilliant lecture; he clearly deserves the Nobel prize. Great example of a gifted mind endowed with multidisciplinary inquisitiveness coupled with persistence over decades leveraging emerging technologies like PCR to tease out his important discoveries. Well worth a listen.
Reminds me of Stephen Kingsmore, a Duke trained physician that is leveraging rapid whole genome sequencing in the neonatal ICU environment coupling key clinical symptoms matched against genetic variations to quickly diagnose and hopefully treat rare conditions; getting those kind of answers in a clinical setting with 25% mortality is quite powerful. Svante Paabo is putting genetics under a similar lens teasing out disease associations as per his lecture.
