The 6's are next --not just intraday but closing prices and year end may be in the 4s or 5s. When gold gets to Rob McEwen's $5000 an ounce a lot of mothballed mines will be rpe to reopen and produce. If they have the gold.
I found nuggets aplenty a week ago - at the Dahlonega mining museum in north Georgia. That was our early gold rush in 1828. Twenty one years before the Sutter Mill discovery. The mines around Dahlonega held so much gold the US Mint had an operation there to mint $5 gold pieces and some lesser denominations. Dahlonega gold had an exceptional purity - up to 98% .
Now the Dahlonega mint mark is a collector's prize but the gold itself played out fairly quickly and all the mines are closed except for a tourist operation. Many of the north Georgia miners left for the California gold fields. Gold has lured people for centuries with promise of easy fortunes - never really easy and often no fortune even after a decade of trying.
