Algae is a total substitute for petroleum unlike ethanol a corn biproduct. Algae can be produced in large quantities in cheap areas such as deserts without the need of replacing other plants. Algae is very resistant and survives on nitrogen and phosphorus an additive which is plentiful in water waste that is pumped into our oceans killing our oceans. The plant meal can be sold for it is healthy to eat. The cost today is 20 to 50 dollars a gallon. With ramped up production algae oil can come down in price and become competitive with oil we use today in 2-3 years.
