Never had a tax problem, always had a good CPA and filed on time. so no worries.
Two years after I sold my company, the idiot went BK and I never got paid the remainder due me.
But it created a tax loss as I had already paid the Capital Gains Tax when it was sold.
So I coasted for 9 years without having to pay a cent. By that time we were retired so nothing to complicate any return.
But back in 1970 we were audited for no reason. Income was reported from the W-2 with normal deductions of interest and taxes.
BUT for some insane reason, they questioned the deduction for our three children despite the fact that we had previously claimed them on previous returns.
We sent copies of their birth certificates but that wasn't good enough. Dam agent insisted coming to our home to see the children! He then demanded school records for the 2 oldest!
He took each child into another room and drilled them about their parents, school, etc.
The thug left without even an apology pissed that he had wasted his time.
