and yes, shorting is flat out un-american and should be banned, as it is in other countries that actually care about their local companies - but the SEC does not care because like everything else american, it is bought and paid for by the dark side.

shorting serves absolutely no purpose other than to destroy companies and make the hedge funds rich. no one else benefits - other than competing companies in the field. lives are destroyed, technology is lost or stolen, jobs lost, tax income is lost, even completely industries are lost (toys are us, there are no toy stores anymore) but hedge funds win. fuck that. hedge funds are simply menaces, nothing more. that can make insane amounts of money, by destruction. total pricks. just like cramer.
