Minnesota Twins finally got Oliva in. He played in the 60's and was the first authenic rookie to win the batting title first year. He had power too. What kept him out until now was his career was shortened by a bad knee, If he did not get in this year, he never would have, last chance.
I got the honor to talk with him several times at a Lifetime Fitness in the Bloomington, Mn. area. He was gracuious and liked by everyone, especially the girls. Yet, he was faithfully married to his only wife that came with him from Cuba, while it was still OK to leave Cuba.
I moved from his Bloomington, Mn. area 8 years ago, but even then he still spoke with a heavy Cuban accent. I remember him walking into the sauna saying, "This is a more like it, this is a more like Cuuuuba.
Twin's pictuer Jim Kaat got in too, not so sure he deserved it like Tony did.
