I don't think anyone really knows where HIV goes dormant and "hides" in the reservoir. Could be the brain cells, could be somewhere in the gut, could be any organ's cells, but the reservoir is that location where the virus is able to go and not be attacked by our immune cells and it does not replicate there. Later, it may decide to re-emerge from that reservoir back to where it is again vulnerable, but to where it may replicate once again.
