Actually the whole thing is kind of silly because you can't sell a share unless someone buys it so the buys vs sells should always be the same. But...it's the only way they've come up with to try and get a feel for what's going on in the Market on a day by day basis.

Buy at the Bid and it's recorded as a Sell

Buy at the Ask and it's recorded as a Buy
