Low volume? Shorts backing off, you say? Not sure that I agree with that assessment.

Roughly 50% of the volume today consisted of short sale transactions, so it stands to reason that only a few hundred thousand shares were possibly the only regularly traded retail shares (trading hands). Talk about "providing liquidity", IMO this is over-kill. When less than 1/4th of one percent of the volume for the day is not a part of the business as usual daily shorting and covering gig by the market players out there, I should think such "trading" is rather suspect. BWTFDIK. AIMHO, of course. 
Also note, this is after a Friday (one session earlier) which consisted of over half of the volume being short sales :
