I think typically when the government announces some initiative, it is the result of some political deal that was pitched to them for a very specific purpose. a BP lobbyist likely went to the right channels and suggested they are coming up with a pipeline of treatments for long haulers and it would be great if the president announces some initiative to spotlight the importance and the governments' support so the treatments have that golden path to profit.
