May I make a suggestion?
1) Take everything you're wondering and write it down on a piece of paper or two... or ten.
2) Wad that/those pieces of paper up in a ball.
3) Burn them while praying that you forget everything you know about GNBT/NGIO/Joe (or flush them down the toilet after relieving yourself... but don't clog the drain!).
4) Carry on with your life knowing we'll probably never find out what happened.
