SAD - Simple Staphylococcus impacts our family and this time takes a life.
Forget COVID. We need rapid testing now!
Next Saturday I attend the funeral for my nephew. At 34 years of age my nephew in perfect health, died from a simple staphylococcus infection. It took the hospital 3 days for the results of a blood culture. By then what everyone though was COVID was determined to be a staph infection.
Tom was the picture of perfect health. During the 3 days they waited for the test, he suffered 3 massive strokes, heart valve destruction, and kidney failure. All of it from a staphylococcus infection. They were treating him for the wrong type of staph.
In 2013, my mother has a similar problem with the time it takes to test for MRSA. At that time she was not able to move to the rehab center she wanted because of MRSA. It was discovered a week before her discharge. She had to be clear of the infection upon discharge. The test results came too late. They took 3 days.
Still praying for families like ours who are grieving the loss of people they love just because testing is so slow. We have the answer.

No family should ever have to go through this when we have been given then answer.
