Probably long life span and durability of their packaging considering the shipping to Europe. I’d bet the US R&D company is Battelle. They published at least one peer reviewed paper on the years-long shelf life of agar packed in flat packs so they knew what lasted. Obtaining European made Petri would’ve removed US quality control that might have been required by the State Department and Battelle, if that’s in fact who it is.
