I have travelled extensively in Brazil and can confirm corruption abounds, however I find it intriguing if the yellow highlights in CTmedic’s post are new, would imply regional expansion near the mega cities of Rio and São Paulo (eg Belo Horizonte), or further geographic reach across that large country (eg Foraleza). I spoke with a physician there and as we were comparing notes on medicine in the US vs Brazil she made a comment I found memorable: doctors there are well educated and capable professionals but they also care, the kind which give you their cell phone number when you are discharged in case you run into any complications (her example). The big challenge in enrollment is getting the word out to good doctors acting in the best interest of their patients; trial site expansion seems to imply this could be the case. I wait for news like the rest of us and would find it appalling if both trials were not fully enrolled by now with the covid19 bloom in Brazil but remind myself each patient must move to their individual full study duration prior to full data capture. “Soon” can be a hard 4 letter word to come to grips with, right up there with “wait.” I just want to see a huge dent in these appalling death figures. Now over 900,000 in the US alone. It could have been so much different.
