"FINRA Rule 4560 requires FINRA member firms to report their short positions in all over-the-counter (“OTC”) equity securities to FINRA." This is from their website at link below.
FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) publishes short interest two times per month. The latest figure is for 1/14/2022 and is 40,088,623 which is 8M more than the report for 12/31/2021. I believe they will publish the next update tomorrow. These numbers are based on reports by member firms. I am not sure about the impact of "naked shorts".
