Sure, great. Let's say the potential partner/financier had someone in mind for CEO.
You don't fire your current CEO in that case, unless you've already vetted the other potential CEO and decided that yes, that is the direction that we want to move in so that a transition can be made as seemlessly as possible, and a deal can be consummated at the same time the new CEO steps in.
If you want a new job, you don't quit your current job and THEN start looking unless there is something really wrong with your current job.
