I doubt it was expected to be much more than a marketing/PR thing anyway. Everybody has access to vaccines, including children or pregnant women based on safety of course. Providing the service for a 50% reduced fee is a bit of a joke, at least in the USA. It sounds good though.
The idea they were going to raise money through a charity for vaccine research was pretty much a stretch at least to the general public. I could see a big private donor using such a vehicle for a tax deductible donation. Even the Warren Buffets of the world want to make sure their foundations give money to legally set up charities so they get a tax write off.
