Remember that the UK used primarily the ineffective AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine. Same problem in countries that used the useless Chinese and Russian "vaccines." I think it was the UAE that has revaccinated their entire population with Pfizer, after having used the Chinese junk. (yes, I intended that pun)

So I'm not sure if figures from the UK have all that much relevance to the U.S. What's more relevant is the high proportion of unvaccinated in the U.S.

I know someone who, on the 5th day of having COVID, went to the grocery store, congested and coughing, knowing that it was a violation of even the stupidly loosened CDC rules -- but, it was because "freedom."
I informed this person never to contact me again. But people like that are why we are not going to get this under control.
