The average length for pandemics is about 4 years. How long has this one been going on?
No one is "cheering" for it to go on. It's just that we've seen unrealistic forecasts of its disappearance before. Remember how it was going to "disappear.... like a miracle"? Or how on July 4th it was going to be under control? And how things were looking better.... and then Omicron?
So anyone who says that the pandemic is going to just go away soon is predicting something that is unpredictable. And when you know people who have died from it, or become long-haulers, and you're seeing vaccinated people falling ill even though they took precautions, it's pretty annoying to have someone act like it's going to be no big deal. It's still a very big deal.
