If you had read my post about this issue, you would have seen that doctors think that South Africa is NOT indicative of what is happening elsewhere in the world. A huge percentage of South Africans, 60-80%, had COVID or have been vaccinated. The average age of people in South Africa is much less than in the Western countries. The people getting sick in SA were in general children and young adults.
Children and young adults typically have much milder cases.
We have only known about this variant for a month, if that. The known spread in the West is only a couple of weeks old. It is far too early to assume that Omicron is less severe, when the evidence from the UK is pointing to the OPPOSITE.
And, the huge number of cases means there will be many, many more long-haulers. Leronlimab had better work, or we are going to have a world filled with disabled people.
