If you had been bribed by a Big Pharma or hedge fund or group of "activist shareholders" to delay and subvert the clinical trials of a company, and did things including not letting them give correct doses, and writing anonymous letters that misstated facts about secondary endpoints on that clinical trial, and generally condemning the company --

and then that little company that you thought you could bully into bankruptcy suddenly hires a world-class law firm, and that law firm not only has some smoking guns that were redacted from the publicly-available record of a lawsuit, and that law firm ALSO brought in its biggest litigator to the team helping the small biotech --

would you worry that your misdeeds might be revealed, and that it might become known that hundreds of thousands or millions of people suffered and/or died needlessly --

would you then try to cover up your agency's misdeeds by suddenly being very helpful, so that if the misdeeds are revealed, you could distance yourself personally from them?
