Jeff,
I agree that the important metric with omicron (as with any disease) “ should be ICU utilization at hospitals, not purely the amount of cases”
However, it appears that omicron is spreading wildly in part due to its ability to infect vaccinated and previously infected patients, albeit at a lower rate. The clinical impact on unvaccinated, elderly and those with multiple risk factors may not be substantially reduced.
Increased number of cases with same number of dead or hospitalized makes omicron appear less virulent.
