Its premature to decide we are "done," but what we are currently seeing is giving hope that we may be nearing the end of the pandemic phase.
Viruses tend to mutate to favor transmissibility and lower mortality. It is unexpected that Omicron took such a massive evolutionary jump, but it appears that is what in fact occurred.
If it can become the dominant strain, and bring with it a substantial reduction in mortality, it will mark a turning point.
Again, we still need to get the data, but I am encouraged.
