Coming up: April Case-Shiller home prices
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The S&P/Case-Shiller home price index for April is due at 9 a.m. Eastern, with expectations for the third monthly gain in a row but a decline in the year-on-year rate. Joseph LaVorgna of Deutsche Bank says there is a discrepancy between the Case-Shiller home price gauge and that of CoreLogic, the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and the median price gauges of the existing- and new-home sales reports. "We believe Case-Shiller is understating recent home price appreciation, as a broad array of other home price metrics is showing a more significant improvement in pricing behavior," he said in a note to clients
