Your examples do not hold up. Has there ever been a nationwide emphasis on controlling venereal diseases, with vaccinations and distancing? (there aren't vaccines for them)
Has there ever been an effort to control the spread of influenza by requiring face masks? Oh wait, there was -- LAST YEAR. The flu season was almost nonexistent because of isolation, distancing, and face masks.
As far as the "common cold," that is not one virus. It can be any number of coronaviruses, and they are constantly mutating. Again, there has NEVER been an effort to control it with masking and sanitation measures -- both of which greatly reduce the spread of these viruses.
