I expect that the range of symptoms in the LH/PASC population is indicative of the multiple manifestations of covid infection.
However, indication of EBV reactivation (antibody to EBV Diffuse Early Antigen) in the very similar CFS/ME was found in 94% of patients, vs 32% in controls.
Gold found the same activation in 67% of long covid patients vs. 10% of controls.
Severity of covid infection also higher/great pneumonia incidence in patients with reactivated EBV.
I'm sure this is not the whole story, but perhaps a significant part.
As with everything else covid related, there is likely no single or simple explanation.
