Yes, and both parties parted without explanation. I don't see that QMC expended any money or effort, and the publicity was most likely an attempt by Freschfield to fundraise the projects IMO.
The uses for QD are many. Some of the main considerations when choosing what QD to use in large scale manufacturing includes-
1. Toxicity- no cadmium or lead allowed.

2. Efficiency- the higher the efficiency, the less are needed and the lower the cost
3. Selectivity- Narrow bandwidth for sharper colors
4, Scalability- Solar panels could require hundreds of kilos of QD Per Day all with matching specs, for continuous production.
5. Environmentally resistant- The ability to resist degradation from air, moisture and heat and continue working with a only small drop in performance, if any.
6. Food grade QD- The ability to use in vivo in medical tests and treatments, as well as food safety applications.
