Myth.. many people hold in cash or retirement accounts, which cannot be lent. Margin can, and you can explicitly instruct your broker not to lend your shares (they're granted permission by default with margin accounts usually).

All the "really high orders" do is tell the MMs how many noobs are in the stock.
