In January 2011, the Honduran congress approved a contract with SinoHydro, a Chinese company, to build the first of three dams (Patuca III or Piedras Amarillas) on the Patuca River. Sino Hydro is infamous for their disastrous construction of China’s Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River.
