In fact, AMBS did exactly that. They repeatedly asked to be de-listed from the Frankfurt exchange, where they had NEVER requested to be listed. There was a tremendous amount of shorting on that exchange, and the shareholders believed that there was naked shorting in the U.S.
So they did a name change, so that all shares would be called in.
Take a look at this chart. Can you guess when the name change happened? Hint: look at the far left side.

Of course, after that event, they just re-shorted and drove the company down again.
