PCR test for CV19 (or any other virus) will be positive if the person being tested has ever had CV19 (or the virus being tested for). PCR looks for the DNA of the virus it is 'calibrated' to test for. So unless they are testing your sample against all the variants, you may be right in having a variant of CV19 but not registering as having it.
