Data on utilization rates is a bit difficult to find (noted by Princeton researchers, likely due in part to the tension between hospitals and major payors like CMS), but it seems that typical ICU utilization rates are around 50%, with higher rates in tertiary care/urban centers.
This graphic only goes back to Sept 2020, but demonstrates the relative utilization of ICU beds in total and by Covid/Non-covid patients.
This image demonstrates the current high utilization, similar to that experienced in January prior to significant reduction in case associated with vaccination.
