It’s all about probabilities. Fully vaccinated folks are, if they continue to mask up and socially distance, unlikely to either (1) get sick, (2) get so sick that they land in the hospital, or (3) die. No guarantees but the odds are very much in my favor vs people who are unvaccinated. My sister, who is immuno-challenged, has already gotten a booster from her primary MD, because if she gets sick she is more likely to die. All medical interventions are based upon educated guesses and probabilities. I remember having this conversation with my internist 40 years ago...he recommended a certain course of action, I followed it, but got sick anyway. I spoke to him later and was angry about the outcome, and he said, ‘hey, I only ever make an educated guess on treatment options but can’t ever guarantee outcomes. The doctor who assures you of more than that is misleading you.’ Gave me a different but more reality-based view of medicine and the medical profession.
